Princess Kerigan, the Dragon King, and the Pirate Captain

Princess Kerigan, the Dragon King, and the Pirate Captain

Once upon a time…..

Princess Kerigan was very excited....  The big party was tomorrow and she had many things to do to prepare for it.  Her ladies of the court:  Lady Cassie and Princess Kaden were admiring their new clothes and hair ribbons. The ladies were so excited.  Prince Jaxon was to attend the party and be a lookout.

Princess Kerigan’s advisor Queen Grammie Kim entered and smiled at the princess and the ladies. You have exactly 10 minutes to be ready for the trip to the port to welcome the ship with the fairies she said. Princess Kerigan, please put on your crown. Your people will want to see you in your royal clothes, including your crown!

Princess Kerigan was very much loved by the people of her kingdom.  She was a wise and good princess.  Everyone from the babies to the oldest citizens loved her very, very much.  She had lived on a faraway island for most of her life, but when the people of the kingdom needed someone to rule over them and protect them, the people called the Beairsto Royal line to rule over them.  so...her mother the Queen Belinda and father the King Clint moved to fulfill their dreams of peace and happiness.  The Queen and King had to stay in the castle, and told everyone that Princess Kerigan was to rule for the day!

As the princess and ladies of the court left, they passed the Meadow of Bubbles and entered the Port of Haileybury.  She could see a few fishing boats as they moved to prepare for the larger boat coming with her fairy friends from the Island where she once lived.

Suddenly, a commotion below brought her to attention. Lord Brent, her chief knight and protector, was talking excitedly to the court ladies who were preparing to go with the princess to meet the ship....From their voices, she knew something was very, very wrong!

Prince Jaxon ran to the princess excitedly, Oh, your majesty, it is terrible. The kingdom is being attacked.

What do you mean?” demanded Princess Kerigan. Lady Cassie, Princess Kaden, please calm yourselves and tell me what has happened....  The noise was too much for her!

Quiet, please, said princess Kerigan. Bring my court advisor, Queen Grammie Kim.  She will tell me what has happened.  Her court advisor came out of the meeting room.

Your majesty... began Queen Grammie Kim speaking in a slow, wise voice, the pirates have joined forces with the dragon king, Brad.  They are preparing to attack us here at the Port of Haileybury.

Our spies have reported that the pirates have taken the harbor, said, Grammie Kim. I am afraid we are in great danger!!! But why would they attack us? asked the Princess....Do we not have peace treaties with them?  My father, the king has brought us peace.  We have had no problems....Queen Grammie Kim spoke, The dragons are angry, and the pirates are just plain evil.  It is up to you, your highness, to bring peace to us once again.

Princess Kaden stepped forward
, What is your command, Princess Kerigan?  What do you wish us to do?

Lord Brent spoke up, Our army is ready to fight, princess. We have arms and can fight both the pirates and the dragons.  I have long wished to have dragon blood on my sword.Since this was her first opportunity to rule, everyone knew she had to make good decisions. She also knew that some of her people were ready to fight.

Queen Grammie Kim, asked the princess...Please arrange for yourself and Lady Cassie to be my emissaries to both parties.  I would like you to go to the Dragon King.  You are wise, and dragons admire people who are wise. Lady Cassie will approach the pirates. I want them to meet with me peacefully near the Tree of Green Wood outside of the gate in one hour.

I will continue the preparations for the festival welcoming my Island friends, stated the princess. Princess Kaden, prepare the tiny cakes for our fairy tea party!

But, your majesty, will there be a party?  It sounds like we should stop preparing for a party and prepare for a war, stated Princess Kaden.....Not if I can help it, stated princess Kerigan softly.

In time, Princess Kerigan left the security of the house where the party was to take place.  The princess had a very good sense of smell and could smell the dragon king before she saw him.  He was not dirty.....  All dragons had a bad smell like mold and a flashing fire. She could not insult him, so she made sure that she smiled as she entered the circle under the Tree of Green Wood.

Your majesty, this is the King of the Dragons, Brent....stated Queen Grammie Kim.  King Brent this is Her Highness, Princess Kerigan, ruler of this kingdom.  The princess and king slightly bowed to each other. The king was quite old, and scarred from battles. He was twice as tall as the princess, but did not look well to her.Might I inquire about your health, King Brent? asked the princess.

Thank you for asking, it is not good.  I have fought many battles and they have taken their toll.  Since your family came to this kingdom and brought peace with you, I have enjoyed my rest.

At that moment, Lady Cassie arrived with the pirate captain.... Princess Kerigan, may I present, Captain Brad, of the pirates....  Captain Brad, this is the ruler of this land, Princess Kerigan. They nodded politely at each other.

Princess Kerigan made sure that everyone was seated comfortably, and that a table of cakes and tea were ready.  The cakes had been made for the party to be held later, but since there might be no party, she decided to serve some cakes now.She was stern in addressing them. Now, what is this nonsense about attacking my kingdom? What are the issues that bring you to the silly idea of attacking us? Both the captain and the king looked down and picked at their cakes.  Neither said anything.  A long silence followed.  Finally, the dragon king spoke in a rather soft voice for a dragon....We are hungry!

My dragons are hungry!  We don’t really like meat.  We like to eat fish and wheat, but we can’t fish and we can’t farm.I see, said the princess. And you? ....she looked at the pirate.

Well, my men are getting older, and they are too tired to sail around the world.  They would like to live on land for a while, but we have no land.  But all we know how to do is fish and rob people.  As we speak, we have surrounded the ship carrying your friends from the Island.  We are prepared to board their ship and rob them if need be!!

Princess Kerigan smiled. I have the solution.....The pirates will come on shore and do some farming and fish for my people and the dragons.  The dragons will give part of their lands to the pirates in exchange for wheat and fish, and if you both agree, you can come to the party this evening to celebrate our peace. There will be plenty of food.  What do you say?

King Brent bowed to her and Captain Brad bowed and kissed her hand.

I agree, and thank you, said the relieved dragon. And I agree, and thank you, as well, said the pirate.

Soon the boat had landed and off came the fairy friends of the princess and their guides. The fairies flew excitedly to princess Kerigan and fluttered around her lovely face.  Lady Cassie, Princess Kaden and Prince Jaxon were laughing with happiness.....They met the dragons and pirates, and although they thought it a strange guest list, were too well mannered to say anything. They also found fairies, pirates and dragons to be a strange blend of beings, but they said nothing and ate a few more cakes.

The fairies began to arrive. Tamara, the blue fairy was lovely in her blue gown with silver sparkles. Jasmine arrived with her green outfit, which was her very favorite.  Pixy arrived in her purple dress with gold ribbons, and the baby fairy, Tootles, came with her hair in a bow and a short white dress.  You could see her tiny baby fairy feet.

The fairies then took bows and ribbons and circling the heads of the princess and the ladies of the court.  The fairies wrapped hair in bows and ribbons.  This was one of the fairies favorite things to do.  Even Tootles could tie a ribbon. What a party they had.  Everyone laughed and enjoyed their tea and tiny cakes and all the dancing...  Pixy, the oldest of the fairies said their goodbyes to Princess Kerigan and her ladies.Thank you, your majesty for this lovely party.  We have enjoyed ourselves very much!!

It was a fine party.  Princess Kerigan looked around at all her party guests. I am very lucky, she thought.I know people who know and love me as I know and love them.  I am a very, very happy princess.  As they left to return to the castle, she saw the Dragon King and the Pirate Captain laughing and enjoying the beautiful day....All was well in the land of Beairsto!

…..and they all lived happily ever after.......
